Each year local air cadets from Delta's 828 Hurricane Squadron conclude their training with an annual ceremonial review in front of numerous provincial and local dignitaries, service organizations, and proud parents.

This year was no exception and on Sunday, June 3 the squadron's cadets stood tall and proud on parade marking the 39th anniversary of the squadron.

The cadets worked hard throughout the year preparing for this event and with the band playing they were inspected by the reviewing officer, Lieut.-Col. R.K.

Jones, who took the opportunity to chat with many of them about their individual accomplishments and their upcoming summer courses.

Following the formal inspection, the audience was entertained with several demonstrations by the cadets, including a razor sharp precision drill team, lively music, biathlon, first aid and glider launching with a tow plane.

Dignitaries made numerous presentations in recognition of distinguished efforts and awards were presented.

Following the parade there was a reception put on by the sponsoring committee and numerous exhibits showcasing the many skills the cadets learned over the year, ranging from demanding winter and spring survival exercises to band.

Guests, parents and excited cadets had the opportunity to mingle, talking about their upcoming summer training, with one of the cadets heading off to New Zealand on international exchange and others proceeding on leadership, glider and private pilot courses, all at no cost to the cadets.

On Tuesday, June 5, officers and cadets again stood on parade with ceremonial swords drawn to mark the formal change of command from the outgoing commanding officer, Capt. William Houle, to Capt. Mellissa Peel.

In his five years as commanding officer, Houle's exceptional leadership enabled the small squadron to produce results far in excess of what would normally be expected for its size.
