Water waste raises questions

Dear Editor,

I realize I have been quite vocal in my opposition to the proposed water lines coming through the Hopington Aquifer in our area, but I believe I have a valid question here.

I have a photograph I took last Sunday at the White Spot restaurant in Aldergrove.

While I understand that the Aldergrove area is need of water, and I see the "water restrictions" all over our area, I would like to question the reasoning behind what we witnessed: hanging baskets all around the restaurant, being watered via spaghetti lines, with water running out of the bottom, wastefully into the drains.

I commented on it to several people when we went into the restaurant, and over an hour and a half later, when we came out of the restaurant, I was beyond dismayed to see the water still running - just running down the sidewalk and into the drains.

No one in our area, on the aquifer, would be so thoughtless. In our area, we are all doing our part to conserve water. Please explain to me why someone in Aldergrove, the area that is supposedly in desperate need of water, allows this type of waste to occur.

Pam Erikson,

Langley
