This just in: a woman from Seattle has announced that this year, she will live on a Starbucks diet.
That's right. "Beautiful Existence" (figures that would be her legal name) is vowing that, for 365 days, she will subsist only on food and drink that can be found at the coffee chain.
No reason given why she's doing it. The only hint, says BE on her blog, is that she's "fearless to try new things."
Okey dokey, then. Either fearless, or the slightest bit daft.
Seems to me, though, that's a lot of lattes. I mean, I like Starbucks as much as the next person, but I think I'd start to miss a few things. Like pot roast, say. And chocolate chip ice cream. And White Spot hamburgers. And pinot gris.
Heck, I can't imagine an entire year without being able to eat oysters at an oceanside bistro or pate at an outdoor café.
But still. BE isn't the only fearless one out there. In fact, it seems to me there are plenty of folks who are fearless - fearless about trying to get attention.
Hey, if I wanted to get people hitched to my blog - if I had a blog - I could also do the year-long thing.
And maybe I will. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the year when, for 365 days, I will part my hair on the other side - and then blog about it.
I may also decide that for an entire year - wait for this! - I will wear only red. I will, for a full 12 months, listen only to marching songs by John Philip Sousa, or write only with a purple pencil crayon, or cook only with a frying pan and a spatula, or speak with a contrived British accent.
Talk about a riveting blog. People the world over, I reckon, would flock big-time to the blog, if only because there are people the world over
who have nothing better to do than go online and read about someone's 12-month Starbucks pledge.
Anyway, I wish Beautiful Existence all the best, I really do. I hope she manages not to overdose on venti Mochas or grande Frappuccinos. I hope she develops a real following. I hope the folks at Starbucks put her picture on their walls, and give her a free hot chocolate every now and again.
I will not, however, be reading her blog, as much as I'm sure it will be amazing.
I'll be too busy hunting for Sousa tunes, and talking like a Brit.
