Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada, including the one in Tsawwassen, launched the ninth annual Tree of Life fundraising campaign last weekend.

The four-week campaign runs Sept. 18 to Oct. 15 and aims to raise funds in support of leading local women's health organizations and charities in the communities they serve.

This year's campaign gives customers the option of choosing from different donation levels. A "leaf" can be purchased for $1, a "butterfly" for $5 or a "cardinal" for $50.

"The ninth year of the Tree of Life campaign will see 100 per cent of proceeds donated to women's health organizations, ensuring women have even greater access to the information and resources they need to stay healthy in mind, body and spirit," said Lisa Gibbs, manager of community investment with Shoppers Drug Mart.

"With the commitment and support of our pharmacist-owners and their teams at store level, our employees and customers, we are confident that we will reach our goal of raising $2 million to improve the health of women and their families across Canada."

An annual charity golf tournament had a record-breaking year.

Last week more than 370 Overwaitea Food Group suppliers came out and supported the company's 15th Annual Classic Fore Kids Golf Tournament.

This year, 72 teams embraced flamboyant golfing attire with the "Crazy Pants" theme and raised a record $1 million for Child Health B.C., a B.C. Children's Hospital initiative that has established a network of health authorities and health care providers dedicated to excellence in the care of infants, children and youth in B.C.

Since 2007, Child Health B.C. has supported the creation of five child health facilities in B.C. as well as providing education and training opportunities for health-care providers with the goal of increasing pediatric care capacity throughout the province.

"For more than two decades, we've focused our community support efforts on kids and their families," said OFG president Steve van der Leest. "We're grateful for the support of our suppliers, team members and customers, helping us bring kids the care they need, closer to home. The Classic Fore Kids tournament is a great example of that."

Since 1995, the tournament has raised close to $4 million for B.C. Children's Hospital.
