Three South Delta Artists Guild members are teaming up for a two-week exhibit at the Tsawwassen Longhouse Gallery.

Laurel Johnson, Eileen Fong and Faith Love-Robertson all have work in Heart and Soul, which begins next Tuesday and ends on Valentine's Day. The artists also have an open house planned for Saturday, Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Valentine's Day, but also, I think a lot of people who paint, they do it from their heart," says Johnson, talking about why the show is titled Heart and Soul.

"You make an effort to make it beautiful and that it's something somebody will enjoy."

Landscapes and a few portraits will be included in the exhibit.

The three friends enjoy each other's work, says Johnson, a retired teacher who lives in Tsawwassen.

"Eileen's a great painter. Faith is just astonishing," says Johnson, who has been cited for honourable mention in juried shows.

"We're all different styles," notes Fong, a Burnaby resident.

One of Fong's paintings at the exhibit will be an acrylic of snowy owls. She was able to get a photo of the owls in Ladner and created the painting based off the photo.

Fong, who has received several awards for her painting, had her work accepted for Richmond's No. 3 Road Public Art Project in 2010.

"I have known both Laurel and Eileen for many years, decades actually, and our styles are very different, which should make for an interesting show," says Love-Robertson.

North Delta's Love-Robertson, who has received awards internationally from the Pastel Journal Magazine in the U.S. and in juried events in the Lower Mainland, will have watercolours, oils and pastels of various sizes at the show. She's hoping to have about 15 pieces, mostly landscapes.

Heart and Soul goes from Jan. 31 to Feb. 14 at the Tsawwassen Longhouse Gallery, 1710-56th St. (adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre). The gallery will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
