- There are still spaces for upcoming blood donor clinics in Maple Ridge. Donors can book appointments to give blood in one of two ways: by calling 1-888-2- DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or by booking online at blood.ca. - Santa Claus Parade and Christmas in the Park take place Dec. 3 From 4 to 8 p.m., there will be Christmas entertainment in Memorial Peace Park. The parade gets underway at 6 p.m. The parade gets underway at 6 p.m. and starts at 222nd Street and Brown Avenue, goes along Dewdney Trunk Road, turns south on 22th Street, and then west on Lougheed Highway. The parade does not loop through the park.

- Discovery Playhouse Children's Society is holding its 11th annual Christmas craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pitt Meadows Heritage Hall, 12460 Harris Rd. The craft fair raises money for gym equipment for the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre where the society runs a daycare. Admission is $1.

- Songwriter Gregory Hoskins will perform at a Roca house concert on Dec. 2 and will lead a songwriting workshop on Dec 3 at the home of Robert Campbell and Cailin Green. - The Canadian Red Cross health equipment short-term loan program in Maple Ridge needs volunteers. The depot is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. This program lends out basic types of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, and bathroom aids, on a donation basis, for up to three months. - The North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association is getting now preparing for their fall 2011 horseback riding program and they needs volunteers to help groom, tack horses and lead or side walk with riders during their lessons. - Maple Ridge Japanese Language School is accepting new students. Space is available in their elementary classes with small class sizes and Japanese teachers. - French Storytimes run on Fridays at the Pitt Meadows Library till Dec. 9. Kids of all ages and stages can enjoy a variety of stories, rhymes and songs at the weekly French storytimes. This is an excellent way to prepare your children for French immersion. Drop in.
- Mumble Jumble Storytimes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Pitt Meadows Library from Sept. 20 to Dec. 8. A little bit of this and a little bit of that: stories, singing, dancing and puppets. - Ridge Meadows Hospital is looking for donations of current, used paperbacks in good condition for patients and residents at the hospital - no hardcover books. - Times are tough, but grad shopping doesn't need to be. Grad Central is a mini consignment shop set up at Thomas Haney Secondary. Anyone who has grad wear to sell on a consignment basis, THSS has set up a Grad Wear consignment shop where you can drop off your items. You name the price. Students from any school looking for an awesome deal on grad wear can come to Grad Central during any school day (in the office) or after school to look at what is offered. Dresses are generally 50 per cent off market value. Currently available are five dresses with approximately seven on the way. Hopefully more will be coming to broaden the selection. Fundraiser
- The Bergthorson Academy of Musical Arts and Delizie Italiane, will hold a weekly fundraiser on Saturdays from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. till the end of December to raise money for arts scholarships for local students who require financial assistance. Proceeds of our fundraiser go to the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council's Arts Angels program. Delizie Italiane offers any one of their menu breakfasts and a cup of organic coffee for $10 of which $5 will go towards the scholarship fund.
World Film Nights
- The World Film Nights series continues at the Maple Ridge Library at 6 p.m. every Tuesday until Nov. 22. Bring a friend and spend a relaxing evening at the library with a must-see film. Women's English group
- The Community Literacy Committee has opened a drop-in office where anyone can come for help with literacy issues. People can ask for help to fill out an application or government form or to have their language levels assessed to be matched with a tutor. They will also be able offer access to free learning software on the computers provided to the committee by the CEED Centre's computer access program. They are also looking for donations of good quality children's books for families to encourage reading at home and high interest magazines for adults to offer an informal lending library. A free Women's English Group runs every Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This group will give women with basic English skills an opportunity to meet over coffee and learn English with a trained TESL tutor.

- Family therapist Vikki Stark is conducting a study of the impact on children of how they learned about their parents' divorce. Maple Ridge Museum
- The Dewdney-Alouette Railway Society holds an open house in the basement of the Maple Ridge Museum the last Sunday of the month. The group has built models depicting Hammond, Port Haney, and Ruskin during the 1930s. The open house runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum, 22520 116th Ave.
Christmas Haven
- Christmas Haven, a dinner for anyone who might be alone on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, returns for its 14th year. Christmas Haven will take place at The ACT from 6 to 9 p.m. Year after year the Haven provides a sense of belonging and camaraderie on a night that often brings hardship to those with little or no support. The non-denominational, volunteer-driven event provides a free, wheelchair accessible, warm welcoming atmosphere for people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic status, to enjoy a warm turkey dinner, Christmas carols, children's activities, and a special gift from Santa. This year the Christmas Haven has teamed with the Salvation Army to provide food for the event. This year the haven is in need of cash donations and/or gifts for teenagers and adults. From Dec. 1 to Dec. 31 donations can be made at either the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre or Maple Ridge Leisure Centre. Both will accept cash or debit.
