An exhibit of photos and writing that explores the history of Ladner is on display this month at the Ladner Pioneer Library.

The idea behind the Ladner Elders project was to talk about what the community was like in the past and what it was like living in the area, explains photographer Sharon Wright.

"We learnt so much," she says.

The project includes 13 black and white portrait photos of local seniors, each with a bio done up by local writer Anne Sanders.

Wright photographed the seniors while Sanders interviewed them about their lives and recollections of the past.

Sanders says it was an interesting project to work on and that she had "so much admiration" for the seniors who took part.

A total of 15 seniors were involved (one of the photos includes a husband and wife while another includes a sister and brother). They had to be over 75 and have lived in Ladner for a minimum of 50 years to take part in the project.

Wright is a professional photographer while Sanders has worked in radio and as a freelance writer. They both live in Ladner.
