Delta athletes turned in some outstanding performances at last weekend's B.C. Summer Games in Surrey.

The multi-sport event, which takes place every two years, featured over 2300 athletes from across the province competing at 20 sports venues. With an average age of 14, the B.C. Games are a training ground for the best up-andcoming athletes in the province. Twenty-five members of Canada's 2012 Summer Olympics team are B.C Games alumni. The 2014 B.C. Summer Games will take place in Nanaimo.

One of the biggest medal hauls for local athletes was close to home as the rowing events were hosted by the Delta Deas Rowing Club on the Deas Slough. Ty Yamamoto and Miranda Prekaski took advantage of the familiar waters to collectively win 11 medals.

Elsewhere, Michael Milic was a force in the triathlon events, winning three gold medals. Delta athletes and coaches also had key roles in Fraser River Delta baseball and lacrosse teams winning bronze medals.
