Local long-time actor Tom Pickett is getting his fair share of stage time - to sing - this month.

Long-time actor Tom Pickett is keeping busy this month with a handful of singing gigs around Vancouver.

Music is another way of connecting with people and telling a story, which is what he does with live theatre, says the Tsawwassen resident.

"You never know what that might mean to someone," says Pickett.

He explains he fell into acting trying to support his music career and "it's the acting thing that's taken off."

Music was always and still is his passion, Pickett says, although he's quick to add that he loves live theatre.

Pickett notes his father was a professional singer in a group called The Four Aces and that he grew up listening to quartet singing.

He'll be singing at the Motown Meltdown benefit show tomorrow and The Last Train, a gospel brunch celebrating Vancouver Co-operative Radio's Gospel Train show on Sunday. Pickett will sing with singer/actress Candus Churchill at those events. He'll also perform at Spring Fever, a fundraiser for the British Columbia Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse, on April 24. Pickett is also involved in a project called Testament, an exploration of the life of Jesus through story and song with a band and guest artists, at The Pacific Theatre in Vancouver from April 10 to 15.

His theatre credits include The Fighting Season, Mrs. Warren's Profession and The Buddy Holly Story.
