Pop-up choir presents two concerts in Tsawwassen

A “pop-up choir” has a two-concert series scheduled at St. David’s Anglican Church in Tsawwassen this month.

The series, titled Waiting for the Light, celebrates the Celtic winter solstice and the season of advent, says wonderchoir composer/conductor Lesley Sutherland, who became interested in the similarities between the two traditions.

Shine a Candle – Meditations and Music takes place Sunday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. with admission by donation.

The second half of the series, Sing Unto the Dark of Night! – Lessons, Readings and Carols, is set for Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. with $10 tickets available at the door.

wonderchoir, an eight-week project that began in late October, is comprised of all ages and musical levels, Sutherland notes.

There are about 25 singers involved and rehearsals have been great fun, she adds.

St. David’s Anglican Church is located at 1115-51A St. The series includes pianist Sara Ciantar and a drummer and fiddler.

• Sutherland has also written Something Happened, a re-telling of the Christmas story, which will be performed by the children and youth of St. David’s and the St. David’s Spoken Word Collective. It takes place Dec. 24 at 4 p.m.
