Beach Grove Elementary was recognized with a Wetland Heroes Award last week.

Ducks Unlimited's national education co-ordinator, Merebeth Switzer, presented the award to the school May 15 in recognition of its longstanding environmental education programs.

Principal Rachael Corneil accepted the award and $500 from Newalta and Ducks Unlimited Canada, the national sponsors of the Wetland Heroes program.

The award is one of five Ducks Unlimited presents annually across Canada.

Beach Grove Elementary's close relationship with the local environment has helped students develop a strong sense of stewardship. Through their studies they have become wetland experts, advocates for wildlife, tree conservationists and beach protectors.

As they learn, they share their knowledge and experiences with the local community, Delta schools and inner city schools.

Beach Grove students are thrilled to receive the award, which will help fund future wetland discoveries by the Tsawwassen school.
