The Los Gitanos flamenco dance company created by Beverly Mantovani will be setting the Tsawwassen Legion on fire - passionate fire, that is.

The group will be performing on three consecutive Friday nights - June 1, 8 and 15 - at 7:30 p.m. Limited tickets are available for each performance.

"I opened my Tsawwassen studio in 2001 and I am so proud that we continue to run strong with many empowered women of various ages and backgrounds learning and performing this exciting dance form," says Mantovani.

"I am affiliated with the Spanish Dance Society that was developed in my native South Africa to provide a codified way to teach flamenco, following a curriculum that ensures that our students learn proper technique, develop strength and find their inner fire. This is our opportunity to show off to our families, friends and community about how much we have achieved this past year."

Mantovani is known for her innovative choreography that pushes the boundaries, and this edition is no exception. There will be over 30 dancers from ages five to over 80 years plus musicians performing a wide range of traditional flamenco rhythms and songs. Similar to previous productions, this show is fast paced and passionate.

“Flamenco must be danced with great heart. It is a dance form created by persecuted peoples in southern Spain and is filled with feelings, whether joy, grief or loneliness," explains Mantovani. "The addition of live singers, guitarist and drummer will make the experience very authentic and special."

Mantovani says she’s happy to have struck a partnership with the Legion to act as the venue this year.

"They are incredibly supportive and have added many great features to the venue to allow us to perform in a very intimate space," she says.

Tickets are $20. They are available by emailing at [email protected] or calling 604-948-8081.
