A group of East Ladner kids marked Earth Day by delivering over 150 maple tree seedlings throughout their neighbourhood.

The seedlings came from the backyard of local mom Victoria Vandereerden, who had noticed them while gardening.

The seedlings, which originated from a neighbour's tree, were dug up and put into small dollar store containers filled with soil, she explained.

The group of 10 children from five different houses spent about two hours out in the rain knocking on doors and giving away the seedlings around the neighbourhood.

"We were getting tired by the end of it," said Vandereerden, whose five kids were among the group.

The group of youngsters ranged in age from six to 11.

They were singing "Happy Earth Day to You" in the tune of Happy Birthday to You for the first half an hour, Vandereerden said.

Last Saturday marked Earth Day, the largest environmental event in the world.
