The Delta Relay for Life was held last month at North Delta Secondary School.
Participants braved rainy weather at the event, which raised more than $55,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. The proceeds will be invested in cancer research and support for people living with cancer as well as cancer prevention initiatives. During the noncompetitive event, which began Saturday, June 16 and continued on until early into the next Sunday, teams of people took turns walking or running laps around the school track for 12 or more hours.
Top fundraising teams were Pirates of the CUREibbean (which included Delta Coun.
Sylvia Bishop) at $14,320 and Delta's Mayor Jackson Team at $7,258, the event's website stated.
