Ladner's Emily Peters plans to cut off her hair this weekend to help raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The Grade 12 student at Delta Secondary said she wanted to give something back and notes heart attacks and strokes have had an impact on her family.
"One of my grandfathers has had two heart attacks," she said. "He was actually dead for five minutes once. The nurses brought him back to life."
Peters is calling the fundraiser Hairless for Hope.
Her goal is to raise $1,000 and so far she's raised over $700.
Once her hair is cut off she plans to donate it to Little Princess Trust, a group in the UK that pro-vides real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.
Peters found the group by searching online for a charity that accepted dyed hair.
Peters has a couple friends and her mom lined up to help her cut her hair.
She said she's a bit nervous "but to be honest, I almost did it last year."
