Jogging for the bog

Two experienced runners are turning their attention to a local cause this month.

On Sept. 26, Craig Moore and Ray Zahab, both ultra marathon runners and social activists, will participate in Run with Ray at Jog for the Bog at Westview Park to raise money to support the conservation of Burns Bog.

Moore is an active member of Club Fat Ass, an environmentally friendly international club for active people. He's completed many adventures in his running life and is now turning his attention to Burns Bog.

Zahab, a Canadian celebrity, motivational speaker and well-known endurance athlete, is running the entire distance around the bog - 40 kilometres - during this annual Jog for the Bog five and 10 km run.

Living with a chronic lung condition, Moore said feels a connection with the bog.

He hopes to raise $2,000 for the event and join Zahab in running the 40 km around the bog.

"I feel a connection with Burns Bog, also known as the lugs of the Lower Mainland," he said.

Zahab is also featured at another Burns Bog fundraising event that same week. He will take his message inside and speak at the Burns Bog Gala on Sept. 24 at the Eaglequest Coyote Creek golf course in Surrey.

For more information about either event visit www.burnsbog.org, or call the Burns Bog Conservation Society at 604-572-0373.
