The Business Improvement Association (BIA), in partnership with the businesses at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall, will be hosting its third annual Tsawwassen Multicultural Celebration at Rotary Square this Saturday.

"The past two years we held this event outside of the CIBC at Bayside Village and it was very well received by the community," said BIA executive director Ana Arciniega.

"Many people had the opportunity to see beautiful and colourful dancing in an outdoor setting for free.

"Normally musical groups have a chance to perform concerts outdoors but it is not common for dance schools to come out to the street - this makes this event very unique and extremely exciting."

The event, which will run from 3 to 5 p.m., features local dance and musical talent presenting styles from around the world, including flamenco, Zumba, highland, jazz, hip hop, folk-dancing and ballet.

Some of the schools featured are Los Gitanos School of Spanish Dance, Clarion Highland, Deas Island Dance, KinVillage FolkDancing and Zumba.

The event will kick off with a rendering of O Canada in English and French by SDSS student Elizabeth Garland.

"We really want to encourage our residents and shoppers to come out and enjoy the performances by these groups," said Arciniega. "We will have chairs and many other activities."

The businesses from around the mall will be hosting various activities, including face painting from Sublime, goodies from Bell, prizes from Blenz Coffee, a barbecue from Lucky Surf and Skate, a spin the wheel game from Flowers Beautiful, cupcakes from Sierra Automotive and more.

Canadian Heritage's Celebrate Canada Program has provided support for this event.

The Tsawwassen Multicultural Celebration is free to the public and is weather dependent.
