Explosives experts from Victoria had to be called in after a local man discovered a old military water marker.

The man was walking along the dike in the 4400-block of 112th Avenue on Tuesday when we discovered a military-style flare and called Delta police.

An investigation revealed that the flare was an old military water marker. Officers called the explosive ordinance unit (EOU) in Victoria and secured the area until members of the EOU were able to pick up the device.
