The third annual A Day in the Garden Tour to benefit the Delta Hospice Society is set for Saturday, Aug. 14.

Thanks to overwhelming support from the community in past years, Ron Deeks and Kristina Linder, together with friends, will again open their gardens for viewing. They would like to invite everyone to join them in support of the Delta Hospice Society.

"There are five very different gardens in Ladner and Tsawwassen on the tour this year," says Linder. "Our goal is to inspire and encourage all gardeners, and we want to show that gardening is for everyone, and that a garden can be anything the gardener wants it to be. We would like for everyone to take home great ideas they can use in their own gardens."

Linder says they want to help the society raise the last $900,000 of the capital campaign to fund the building of its new facilities.

"It warms our hearts to know that every cent we raise is going to help those people in Delta who are in need of hospice or bereavement care."

A Day in the Garden Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation. Tour maps are now available from Thrifty Foods, the Hospice Cottage Thrift Store, the Harold & Veronica Savage Centre for Supportive Care, Open Space Yoga, Ladner Village Hardware and from each of the gardens on the day of the tour.

Since the Irene Thomas Hospice opened in February, over 40 families have benefited from the expert care of the nurses, support staff and volunteers. The new Harold and Veronica Savage Centre for Supportive Care continues to connect with people throughout Delta to offer information, resources, counselling and other support services.

"Our community should be proud to have such a high standard of care and comprehensive program of supportive care, end-of-life and bereavement care," says Nancy Macey, executive director of the Delta Hospice Society. "We appreciate all that the community has done to help make the hospice and support centre a reality."
