Mayoral candidate Heather King didn't get much bang for her buck in last November's civic election.

The former councillor who decided to run for mayor after just one term is the first council or mayoralty candidate to have submitted campaign financial disclosure statements, which are now available for public viewing.

Each candidate, elector organization and campaign organizer in a local government election is required to submit to the municipal clerk, within 120 days of the election, a campaign financing disclosure statement.

King, who failed to win a single poll in the election, listed her total campaign contributions at $70,274. After expenses, she had $38 remaining.

She had numerous contributions from individuals, including council candidate Neil Corbett ($199) and Earth King Investment's Bobby Parwar ($597). Some of the donations by companies included Alpha Aviation ($1,000), Earth King Investments ($796), Enviro-Smart Organics Ltd. ($995), Houweling Nurseries ($1,999), Westshore Terminals Ltd. ($1,000) and Kenorah ($1,990).

She also received several thousand dollars in non-monetary contributions and items for her fundraising auction.

Some of King's biggest expenses included $11,627 in advertising and $12,632 in pamphlets and signs. She also listed "campaign related functions" at just over $28,000. Her election night party cost $861.

In the 2008 election, when she won a council seat for the first time and topped the polls in the process, King had $7,800 in contributions with just over $2,000 in expenses.

She had been a school trustee for six years prior to running for council.

Incumbent Lois Jackson easily retained the mayor's seat by garnering 43.17 per cent of the popular vote in the November election. Krista Engelland finished second with 26.47 per cent, while King received 22.98 per cent. John Meech was a distant fourth with 7.39 per cent.

Jackson won every poll in North Delta and Ladner, while Engelland topped every Tsawwassen poll.

In an interview following the election, King said she was surprised and perplexed by the results. She said her campaign placed special emphasis on North Delta, where there seemed to be a strong desire for change.

As of Thursday, school board candidates to have filed disclosure documents included Carol Johnson, Malcolm Smillie and Val Windsor.

Johnson listed $0 in contributions and $81 in expenses, while Smillie had $450 in contributions and $428 in expenses. Neither won a seat.

Windsor, the former Delta Teachers' Association president who was successful in her first run for office, had $1,400 in contributions, but $4,957 in expenses.
