A group of Ladner moms is reaching out to bring a little brightness to the less fortunate this holiday.
Women Helping Women - Ladner is currently collecting donations of personal items, such as shampoo, soap, deodorant and toothbrushes, for women's shelters and transition homes. The group also wants to bring a little fun to a woman who is going through a rough time.
"As moms, we'd like to give the gift of pampering," said organizer Pindi Mann, adding the group is also looking for donations of items like nail polish, make up, perfume and pyjamas - anything new and unopened that will give the gift of pampering to women who might not be able to afford it.
"Anything that will give a lady a boost."
After contributing to Christmas baskets for women living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside for several years, Mann decided to bring the cause a little closer to home a couple years ago.
The small group of dedicated volunteers uses donations to put together gift bags distributed at shelters, transition homes and recovery centres in the region.
"It was nice to give back to a place closer to home," said Patrice Dagenais.
Last year, Dagenais and a couple other women delivered some of the bags to one of the shelters.
"It was very humbling," said Janet Boates.
Women Helping Women - Ladner is accepting donations at Fisherman's Hall on Friday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m until 4 p.m.
