There will be a chance to check out some live music and help out a good cause at the same time next weekend at the Tsawwassen Legion.
The fourth annual Deltassist Christmas toy drive charity event is set for Saturday, Dec.
1. The lineup features a dozen bands.
"This is our fourth annual and it's getting bigger," says Jerry Doucette who, along with Kenny Boychuk, is behind the show.
The popular event moved to the local Legion last year after the first two attracted big crowds at the Rusty Anchor Pub in Ladner.
"The [Legion] just got packed and it was just incredible," says Doucette. "We had such a great time. It's all for the kids."
Ladner's Doucette, a rock artist known for the hit Mama Let Him Play, says he and Boychuk, a longtime keyboard player, were sitting over a beer together four years ago and decided to do something to help out less fortunate kids.
"We just threw it out there and thought, if it sticks to wall, good. It did more than that, so we're really happy with it."
Deltassist, a non-profit social services organization, runs an annual Toy Depot program where donated toys reach children from low-income families.
The Christmas toy drive charity show starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Tsawwassen Legion, 22-1835-56th St. The Jerry Doucette Band will wrap up the show.
Admission is a new unwrapped toy (worth approximately $20) or an equivalent cash donation.
