Chilliwack woodturner Michael Hamilton-Clark didn't let the rain dampen his spirits as he worked on his lathe in front of Inspired Arts and Gifts in Yarow making Father's Day gifts last Saturday.

Hamilton-Clark makes traditional bowls and plates but also specializes in winestoppers, pens and his "penny" dishes, where a one-cent piece is included in the maple wood of a small plate.

A retired civil engineer, Hamilton-Clark has been designing and making wood-turned items in his Albery Studio in Sardis (named for his three grandchildren, Alex, Ben and Ryan) since 2005.

His work is displayed for sale in local specialty shops, including at Inspired Arts and Gifts, a new shop in Yarrow that includes the work of more than 50 local artisans, according to owner Trudi Martens.

Hamilton-Clark is a member of the Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild and the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association.

- Inspired Arts and Gifts is at 42333 Yarrow Central Rd.
