A suspicious vehicle fire early Tuesday morning led Delta police to one of the suspects in a Surrey targeted shooting.
At around 7:30 a.m. officers were called to the 7300-block of Bates Road in North Delta after a report of a vehicle on fire.
Upon arrival, officers found the car completely engulfed in flames and were told that two males had possibly fled the area on foot.
More officers, as well as the Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team and the department's K-9 unit, were called in and a 21-year-old man was quickly taken into custody.
Officers searched the area for several hours but could not locate a second suspect.
The burned vehicle matches the description of the Surrey shooting victim's rental car - a blue 2012 Hyundai Elantra with B.C. licence plate 147 PFH.
"Delta police investigators are working closely with the Surrey RCMP, and the investigation continues," said Delta police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan.
Around 6 a.m. Tuesday the victim drove the rental car to the 14300-block of 92nd Avenue, where he got out of the car and was shot by a lone gunman.
After the shooting police say the suspect took the victim's car and fled, leaving the shot man on the side of the road.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, managed to walk to a nearby house and the resident called 911. He is currently in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
