Gwen's Growing and Giving plant sale takes place tomorrow in Ladner.

Organizers are expecting another good selection of plants at this edition of the annual fundraiser.

"We get some pretty special plants," says facilitator Pam Mason, who is supported by Karen Harding, Mary Ellen Jiles, Judy Matilda and over 50 other volunteers that commit time, energy and plant materials.

Plant donations are accepted from the community and local businesses.

"There's some wonderful gardeners in the area that decided to split their plants and donate a piece here and there," Mason says.

This time there is expected to be a wide variety of Asian lilies, unique bi-colour daylilies, silver edge Siberian iris, astibilles, bear's breech, wall flower, filipendula, primula, hostas, heurchera, sempervivum and more. Prices start at $1 for a good part of the plants for sale. Mason notes it's a good idea to get to the sale early.

"It's a bit wild in the morning," she says.

This will be the first sale since the event's founder, Gwen Szychter, passed away after a battle with cancer.

Volunteer Kathy Bossort, a former archivist at Delta Museum, was close friends with Szychter, a historian.

"It was just great to do things with plants and with Gwen," says Bossort, adding the event "has such a positive feel to it."

Proceeds from this year's sale will be going to Delta Hospice and the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. OWL hopes to have an actual owl at the event.

Last year's sale was the most successful ever, raising over $3,300. The 18th annual plant sale goes from 9 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. tomorrow at 5016-58A St., Ladner.
