The best of the best are now on display in Tsawwassen as the South Delta Artists Guild’s 15 th annual Oil and Water show opened last week at Gallery 1710.

The best of the best are now on display in Tsawwassen as the South Delta Artists Guild’s 15th annual Oil and Water show opened last week at Gallery 1710.

The juried art exhibition saw three jurors review jpeg images of all 315 entries, narrowing it down to approximately 85 paintings that now grace the gallery. A hefty slate of sponsors has endowed the show with many prizes.

Best in Show, titled Sunset After the Rain, was painted by Victoria artist Jim McFarland. Second place awards went to Kathy Swift (Delta) for Conversation with Abstraction and Dominique Medici (Seattle) for Pat.

Awards of excellence went to William Liao (Vancouver) for Life & Fate #7 and Viena Wroblewska (Richmond) for How About a Margarita Beautiful?

Awards for artistic achievement were won by Christina Shalaby (Richmond) for Hilltop King, Leah Terpsma (Delta) for Piggyback, Victoria Heryet (Delta) for Rush Hour, Annie Tsai (Richmond) for Guess Who and Tom Taylor (Vancouver) for On Guard at Kits Pool.

Awards of distinction went to Lynn Sykes (Langley) for Fuschia Bouquet and Wolf Scheneke (Burnaby) for Divers Porteau Cove.

Honourable mentions went to Nancy Dean (Delta) for Back Streets of Florence, Heather MacNeill (Vancouver) for New Beginning, Jill Charuk (Vancouver) for Stained Glass, Linda Bell (Surrey) for Celebration, Adrienne Moore (Richmond) for Caterpillar Garden, Ron Knox (Langley) for Family Pod, Joy Hanser (Vancouver) for Salvador’s Alley, David Righton (Vancouver) for Those at the Forest Edge Are Survivors of Winter, Claire Maxwell (Delta) for Island Kids and Anita de Vos (Delta) for To Freckles Amusement.

A list of awards and the names of the paintings don’t begin to do justice to the show, which runs until June 23.

Gallery 1710, located beside the South Delta Recreation Centre at 1710-56th St, will be open Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., during the show.
