Delta Hospice Society welcomes people living with cancer, as well as their friends and family to join its Restorative Yoga practice group. Restorative Yoga supports the body in poses lying down or seated, in stillness with breath awareness. No previous experience necessary. Six sessions, led by a yoga teacher, on alternate Thursdays, starts Thursday, April 19 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. South Delta Newcomers Club welcomes new members to our group from Ladner, Tsawwassen and Point Roberts. Ladner Lawn Bowling Club has an open house Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The club is located one block east of the Ladner Library, 5128-47th Ave. Try out lawn bowling and check out the club.

 

Registration is now open for Spring term (April 23 to June 7) at North Delta Aikikai. Aikido is a martial art that means "the Way of Harmony." Practice redirecting physical aggression through circular movements, & non-violent methods of conflict resolution in a welcoming environment. Delta Hospice Society welcomes people from the time of diagnosis of cancer, during treatment, remission or recurrence to join its Cancer Support Group. Participants will have opportunities to share their experiences, feel less isolated, and feel comforted by the support of others. Six sessions, led by a counsellor, on alternate Thursdays, starts Thursday, April 26 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner. Delta Hospice Society is pleased to offer Kids Grieve Too –   bereavement groups to support children ages 7-12. These groups apply expressive arts and play therapy to reduce anxiety and anger, promote healthy expression of difficult emotions, increase understanding of grief and loss, and provide support through connection with others. Six sessions, led by a counsellor on Thursday afternoons, May 3 to June 7, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner. Delta Hospice Society welcomes adults who have experienced the death of a loved one to join its self-care/relaxation group to learn a variety of self-care techniques and participate in experiential guided relaxation. The group will help participants address feelings of depression, exhaustion and anxiety as they relate to grief. Six sessions, led by a music therapist, starts on Thursday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner. Ambassadors Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters meet every second and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Come listen to some amazing speeches and see if Toastmasters is for you! Our club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills training room. Ambassadors always welcome guests. Come and see how Toastmasters can help you gain confidence and skill public speaking as well as with leadership skills in a safe, encouraging environment. Every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Tsawwassen Library connect with other newshounds for News and Views to discuss current events in the news. Bring an article to share or discuss what turns up in the day’s papers.

 

Do you want to talk about big ideas and learn from the greatest minds on the planet? Attend a TED Talks Discussion Group at the Tsawwassen Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is dedicated to spreading ideas and covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues. Listen to a pre-selected TED Talk and an open discussion will follow.

 

The Knitting Sisters, a group which donates knitted items to various community groups, would be appreciative of any yarn donations. Donations can be dropped off at McKee Seniors Recreation, 5155-47th Ave., Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., or Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The group, which meets at McKee as a drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturday of the month, also welcomes new members.

Ladner Lawn Bowling Club hosts a Plant & Bake Sale Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The club is located one block east of the Ladner Library, 5128-47th Ave. This is a long-standing annual fundraising event for the club. Come early for a good selection.

The Wander Inn Cafe opens on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. with entertainment at 7:30 at 5545 Ladner Trunk Rd. (inside the church).

Entrance is by a suggested $7 donation which covers everything.
