Guild’s T.G.I.F. II opens at Gallery 1710 next week

Gallery 1710 has a way of attracting creative people who like to bond and share techniques. Friday mornings are always lively as artists from the South Delta Artists Guild spread their tools with enthusiasm.

Gallery 1710 has a way of attracting creative people who like to bond and share techniques. Friday mornings are always lively as artists from the South Delta Artists Guild spread their tools with enthusiasm.

Last year they presented their first show and next Tuesday they are just as enthusiastic about T.G.I.F. II.

Organizing a show involves a lot of effort by everyone involved: Who will handle the sales? Who will hang the show? How many works can each artist bring without overwhelming the patrons? Can we bring unframed works, or cards? When will we be opening and will we have a reception with food and entertainment? It’s all decided with speed, and everyone goes beyond the boundaries of their own abilities to add interest to the show and to assist wherever their talents are best utilized.

Guild member Marlene Strain contacted Beach Grove Elementary to invite students on a field trip to Gallery 1710 next Friday afternoon. Students will choose their favourite painting in the show and then will have time to do a small painting that will be on display in the studio space until Feb. 3.

Awareness of art begins at a young age, and curiosity about diverse methods can start young children on the road to creative awareness.

Gallery 1710 (beside the South Delta Recreation Centre at 1710-56th St.) will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the duration of the show, Jan. 23 to Feb. 3. A reception featuring entertainment will be held on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
