Join a church

“... for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.

“... for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.” Ephesians 5:29-30

A few weeks ago, a lady was visiting our church said to me, she was searching for “the perfect church.” Jokingly, I told her she would have to die to find it. There is no perfect church on this earth.

The perfect church stands before God in heaven and the only perfect pastor is Jesus Himself. Only heaven has the perfect worship music department, youth director and children’s minister. On earth, a church may look good when you first walk in, but the longer you stay, the more flaws you will find. The church is not perfect because God uses people, not angels.

So why would you join an imperfect church?

God calls you to an imperfect church not to make it perfect but to share His love with people. I know the church makes mistakes, unintentionally the church might even have hurt you and I would like to apologize if that has been your experience. But here is the truth. The Church will always have imperfections in the people as well as the leadership. But the vision of the church is perfect. Love people unconditionally like God loves us.

Our application of this vision has failed many times. There will always be room for improvement. Listen, our church is not perfect, we are far from it, but the One we believe in, is perfect.

Jesus is the only one that gives us hope for tomorrow. He covers our mistakes and He accepts us just as we are – imperfect people.

I want to encourage you, to not give up on the church. Rather join us and help us to love people more like how Jesus loves us.
