Learn to paint at South Delta guild’s free workshop

Local artists will be sharing their expertise at pair of sessions tomorrow at Gallery 1710

Ever tried your hand at painting? Now is your chance.

The South Delta Artists’ Guild is holding an interactive workshop at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen tomorrow. Free to the public, the workshop will be presented in both morning and afternoon sessions.

The morning session, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will feature pastel artist Catherine Sheppard as well as acrylic artists Kathy Swift, Jan Rankin, Sandra Taylor and Jodie Blaney. They will be doing demonstrations of both landscape and abstract techniques. It’s interactive, so asking questions is encouraged.

From 1:15 until 4 p.m., Coral Gurney, a noted oil painter, will teach participants to develop their own masterpiece. Enya Jorge, who loves watercolour, will share a thing or two about this challenging medium, while Nancy Dean, who paints colourful Vancouver and Delta scenes, will show would-be artists how to start a painting and how to develop the concept.

Geoff Hacker, once an architect, has a special approach to getting the perspective just right, while Lea Price has introduced many a novice to a professional approach with her easy style and popular classes.

Many of the artists teaching at the workshop are active in the Federation of Canadian Artists and have had their work exhibited in Gallery 1710 and elsewhere.

More information about the workshop is available at www.southdeltaartistsguild.com or on Facebook. No registration is required.

The gallery is at 1710-56th St.
