Minister's Minute: Humble and kind

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness...” Galatians 5:22-23

That’s the title of a song I recently heard. It reminded me of words of wisdom my dad always said to me before I would go out to perform. “Stay humble and be kind no matter how famous or successful you become.”

Most of you don’t know this, but we moved here from South Africa about 13 years ago to follow God’s call on our lives. I was a recording artist with EMI before we moved to Canada so I did a lot of performing.

In this world where we are expected to do and be many things, we need to remind ourselves often what life really is about. Too many times we leave kindness behind yet kindness is king. It brings change to everything. I want to encourage you to remember this. Being humble and kind will serve you much better than being arrogant, prideful and cruel. Ultimately the true win in life is leaving a legacy of kindness.

In 2018 we need more people on a campaign to just be kind and love people.

So let’s raise humble and kind kids, have kind marriages, be kind friends and lead kind lives. Let kindness guide your words and actions.

It’s not about what people do for you or to you. It’s about the kindness you decide to shine through you.

Be kind to yourself. Be kind to a world that needs to be reminded kindness is a language we can all choose to speak and we can all understand.
