Minister's Minute: Make 2018 a ‘better’ year

What does your “better” look like this year? Better health choices, relationships, marriage, leadership, disciplines, consistency. We all choose our “better” and then we make a plan about how we can bring about those changes in our lives.

What does your “better” look like this year? Better health choices, relationships, marriage, leadership, disciplines, consistency. We all choose our “better” and then we make a plan about how we can bring about those changes in our lives.

I have discovered that all change starts with our thinking because our lives move in the direction of our strongest thoughts. If your thoughts are full of faith and full of love, you are becoming more like Jesus every day.

If your thoughts are negative, toxic and polluted, I promise you, your life’s direction is not one that is heading towards “better” anything.

In order to find our “better,” we are called to follow Him. We are not to expect Jesus to follow us. The question is: What or who is in the driver’s seat in your mind? Is it ambition, greed, pride, people pressure or insecurity, fear or doubt?

What we allow to take the wheel of our life will determine the course of our future. The Bible says in Romans 8:6, “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”

Which one of these two choices do you think will produce “better” results?

Jesus is looking for followers, not drivers, and following him is a daily choice you make in your thinking. Self-sacrifice is the key to a “better” life, not self-help.

It’s what we are willing to lay down that will determine what we get to pick up. It’s our surrender that makes room for our calling.

Maybe 2018 needs to be a year where you adjust who or what is at the wheel in your mind. Trust God and do things His way and you will see “better.”
