Prize can be shared by all

MINISTER'S MINUTE

I wonder who it was who once said, “Keep your eyes on the prize.” It seems to me to be good advice.

Earlier this fall I was sitting in the Kubota backhoe outside the new church kitchen.

Fortunately the machine was turned off and I could do no harm to myself or any of the property around me, but I pretended to dig the new soil for the ramp that would eventually come.

Well, on Monday, the concrete was poured and soon it will be “cured” and the first “scooter, walker or wheelchair” will be able to easily enter the church and hall.

The excitement continues to grow in All Saints as we watch repairs to the building be completed and we prepare for the fall and Advent season. We are thinking of the many ways we will be better able to serve the South Delta community.

That’s the “prize” at the end of the day — that this building can serve God’s people more efficiently and safely.

Any church community that has undergone renovation in the last few years knows this well. The church is the only community that exists to serve, not itself, but the people of God in the wider community and the world.

In the letter to the Hebrews we read, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders … and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…”

That’s our prize.
