Minor injuries in plane crash in Boundary Bay

Delta Fire and Delta Police were called to the scene after reports of the downed plane around 11:34 a.m.

Delta police say minor injuries were reported following a small plane crash at Boundary Bay Airport Saturday morning.

Delta Fire and Delta Police were called to the scene after reports of the downed plane around 11:34 a.m.

“We were met at the main gate by Boundary Bay Airport staff, who led us into the crash site,” said Delta Fire Chief Guy McKintuck. “Upon arrival the aircraft was on fire, but the single occupant (the pilot), was out of the aircraft when firefighters arrived.”

He said 12 firefighters attended the call and the fire was extinguished very quickly.

The pilot was taken by paramedics to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Reports are that the plane crashed in a grassy area on the Northeast side of the airport.

DPD spokesperson Cris Leykauf said Transport Canada was notified, but they won't be attending the crash site.

She said the incident seems to be an accident.

The plane was badly damaged in the crash.
