Abbotsford Police have issued a public warning about a man convicted for posing as a police officer on Facebook in attempts to lure youth for sex.

Jeffrey Allan Goddard, 22, has finished serving his jail sentence and plans to live in Abbotsford, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

Goddard, who has been the subject of three APD news releases, was sentenced to 20 months in jail in June 2011 after pleading guilty to invitation to sexual touching, luring a child under 16 using a computer, impersonating a police officer and two breaches of his bail conditions.

APD issued the warning as Goddard has a criminal history of sexual offences against children, impersonating a peace officer and failing to comply with court conditions, said MacDonald.

Goddard is under probation for three years and must follow a series of conditions.

During Goddard's trial, the court heard the offender used Facebook to connect with his victims who were aged between 12 and 16 years old, all but two of whom were boys.

He used at least five aliases to make initial contact with the young people.

He would get telephone numbers and call the victims, posing as a police officer and offered them gifts or highly paid work opportunities to try and convince the teens to meet him.

One 15-year-old youth ran away from his foster home to stay at Goddard's apartment, where Goddard made sexual advances.

Goddard is 175 cm tall (5'9") and weighs 68 kilograms (150 lbs.).

He has short brown hair and green eyes and sometimes wears glasses.

Goddard's conditions include:

- No contact with anyone under the age of 18

- Not attending any public park, school ground, daycare, swimming areas, playgrounds, skating rinks, community centers or recreational centres where persons under the age of 18 are present

- Not to use or possess any electronic device that can access the Internet

- Not to establish or maintain any social networking site

- Not to possess weapons
