Looking to hit the pitch, get some exercise and maybe score a few goals?

There is a drop-in soccer game held twice a week at Winskill Park in Tsawwassen that is open to anyone.

"Everyone's welcome," says Martin Basford, who's been playing for about three or four years.

Normally enough people show up for 10 a side games, he notes, adding more turned up this week because of the holiday and nice weather.

Basford notes organizer Gerry Atkinson, 75, still comes out to play.

"He's an amazing character."

Elsie Cheng, another player, says the drop-in started around 10 years ago by a group of moms who "wanted to get out and get some exercise."

Cheng, who enjoys the social aspect of the game as well as getting some good exercise, notes turnouts have been really good this year, even during winter.

"It's a lot f fun," she says, adding that games are held even when it rains.

Former York City player Norm Goodall, 70, was out at the game this Wednesday.

"It keeps us in touch with the young people. It's a nice, rounded game. All kinds of levels. Ladies, men, children, granddads," he says. Games are held every Wednesday and Friday at 10: 15 a.m. at Winskill Park.
