Tsawwassen-based band Six to Midnight has been busy over the last year.

Since the group's local Haiti earthquake relief fundraiser show last January, the four-piece has played gigs in Vancouver and got down to work on a debut EP.

The band has plans to put on a show later this month at the Tsawwassen Legion.

"We've just been super busy, having a good time and practicing lots. We thought we'd do another throwback and throw another giant party in Tsawwassen," says singer Jordan Field with a laugh.

He notes they haven't done a local show since raising over $5,000 for earthquake relief in Haiti at a gig at the Tsawwassen Golf and Country Club.

"It should be a really, really good night," says Field, referring to the upcoming performance at the Legion.

With a number of shows in Vancouver over the last year, at establishments like the Shark Club and Venue, the band is getting good responses, the singer says.

"It seems like there's more and more people coming out to every show," says Field. "We're just having a lot of fun playing."

The group has also hooked up with a recording engineer and is hoping to be finished their eight-song CD effort by the summer.

"We've recorded four songs and we're just about finished our second set of four songs. We'll have that all ready and pressed hopefully by the summertime."

The first four tracks can be heard on the band's MySpace page.

Six to Midnight (the band's name is a reference to a line from the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is composed of Field, guitarist Daryn Davies, bassist Evan Jones and drummer Nathan Steinberger.

Field says it's a team effort for the group in terms of songwriting.

"Sometimes I'll come up with a riff in my head and I'll give it to Daryn in my voice and he'll [play] it on guitar, then we'll go from there. Lately Daryn's been coming up with music and I've been writing the lyrics."

He says the band's sound is maturing.

"I like to think we have some substance in what we're saying in our music. We're just trying to be conscious about that -- to be putting out some sort of message or story with the songs that we're writing," Field says. "We're definitely growing together."

The group's style includes a mix of rock, soul, blues, funk and hip-hop.

"The songs may be a different style, we go from blues to hip hop, they may not seem like they go together but if you listen to the whole thing it's very cohesive."

Six to Midnight will play at the Tsawwassen Legion on Saturday, Feb. 26. Doors are at 8 p.m. and admission is $5. Local rock band StrangeFruit will be the opening act.
