Explosives experts from Victoria had to be called in after a local man discovered an old military water marker on the edge of Boundary Bay.

The man was walking along the dike in the 4400block of 112th Avenue on Tuesday when we discovered a military-style flare. He called Delta police.

An investigation revealed the flare was an old military water marker. Officers called the explosive ordinance unit in Victoria and secured the area until members of the unit were able to pick up the device.
