The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Ladner

Feb. 9, 4:30 a.m., 4800-block of Delta Street: Report received that a break and entry had occurred at a business. The front door was smashed and a lone male entered the store and stole seven cell phones and one tablet with a total value of over $3,000. Surveillance showed the male to be 5'8", 180 lbs, wearing jeans, black and white jacket with red logos, and running shoes.

Feb. 10, 9:23 a.m., 5300-block of Crescent Drive: Complainant reported a possible bullet hole in the fuel tank of his vehicle parked overnight at his residence. Police examined vehicle and confirmed hole was made with a drill and not a bullet. Approximately $100 worth of gas stolen.

Feb. 11, 9:01 a.m., 52A Street and Ladner Trunk Road: Police responded to a report of a three-car collision. The first vehicle stopped to allow a vehicle to back out of the gas station and was rear ended by a vehicle that was subsequently rear ended by a third vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle in the chain admitted to be looking at his cell phone and thus was unable to stop. A motor vehicle ticket was issued to this driver. No injuries. Two of the vehicles were towed from the scene.

Feb. 12, 11:37 p.m., 4800-block of Chisholm Street: A passerby reported an unlocked door on a residence. Police attended and were told by a neighbour that damage on the door was not something new. Police cleared the premises but noted evidence of possible squatters. Owners of the residence contacted and advised to board up the property in order to prevent further damage and squatting.

Feb. 12, 9:54 a.m., 36th Avenue: Complainant reported mail had been stolen from the mailbox belonging to the residence. The complainant has informed Canada Post and banks of the theft.

Tsawwassen

Feb. 9, 11:44 a.m.: Complainant reported she had received a phone call from an unknown male stating she had won $3 million and was required to send money to process the win. The caller stated he would be at her residence with other males to deliver the winning money and this made the complainant very nervous. The complainant was assured this was a phone scam and that funds should never be sent to anyone requesting money over the phone. Complainant advised to call 911 immediately if anyone showed up at her residence.

Feb. 10, 9:16 a.m., 56th Street: A passerby reported an open and smashed front door to a business. Police attended and confirmed the break and enter and cleared the store. Two employees arrived and provided a list of items stolen, including purses, handbags, boots and cash. Police located a vehicle of interest in the area that might contain the stolen goods and had it towed to police headquarters for further investigation.

Feb. 12, 8:06 p.m., 5300-block of Silverado Place: Report received of a pile of clothing near the water pump house. Police seized the clothing consisting of socks, boxer briefs, tank tops and T-shirts but nothing to identify the owner. Police suspect the owner abandoned the clothing as they may have realized the need to reconsider their fashion sense and wardrobe.

Feb. 13, 9:27 a.m., 67A Street: Complainant reported his unlocked garage had been entered and his brand new bicycle had been stolen. The bike is described as a blue and black framed Alaska 26-inch, 10-speed with fat tires. Police continuing to follow up as a similar bike was seen in another area on the same evening.
