A Modern Music School franchise location is up and running in Tsawwassen.

Owners Chris and Leonie Bunz opened the doors earlier this month to the school that focuses on group lessons and a positive approach to learning music.

"The mission of the school is, really, we want everybody to love music," says Chris.

He notes there are many positive aspects to teaching group lessons. The learning curve is higher in group settings while it's less intimidating and stressful for students, who are able to learn from each other as well, he explains.

Bunz also notes teachers at Modern Music School are required to go through a three-year training program. He adds great teachers make all the difference and they strive to have the best.

The school, which is open to all ages, offers training in bass, acoustic and electric guitar, vocals, drums, keyboard and piano as well as a band program.

Music education benefits brain development and really helps children to develop self-discipline, he says.

Kling Klong, a program for kids 18 months to six years, is also available. It offers a fun approach to music where kids play instruments (like drums, shakers and bells) that are right for their state of development, says Leonie.

Modern Music School, which has been around for three decades, is headquartered in Germany.
