Ladner's Royal Ocean Events Inc. has recently expanded its wedding consulting business after signing a deal with Royal Caribbean International Cruise Lines.

The multi-year deal is worth more than $16 million.

Royal Ocean Events, which was founded 20 years ago by Tonia Scurr, already has the exclusive contract rights to plan and deliver five-star weddings for Holland America, Norwegian Cruises, Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The company plans and performs more than 1,400 weddings a year, employs 20 wedding consultants in its Ladner Village head office and almost 500 contract wedding coordinators, wedding celebrants, flower vendors, resorts and photographers in ports of call around the world.

"If a couple is thinking of a honeymoon cruise, why not be married in their home port where friends and family can board for the ceremony and reception and wave good-bye as they sail away into the sunset, or be married in an exotic port along the way," said Chris Scurr, vice president of marketing for Royal Ocean Events.

"What couples don't know usually is that these weddings come with a personal professional wedding planner to consult with and plan every detail, wedding coordinator(s) at the wedding to make sure everything goes perfectly, as well as all the trimmings, for about one-third the cost of an ordinary land-based wedding.

"Tonia is proud to head a company that affects and changes the lives of tens of thousands of people worldwide, all from our lovely little town of Ladner."
