Delta Coun. Sylvia Bishop announced this week that she is running for the NDP North Delta nomination after sitting MLA Guy Gentner last week announced his retirement.

Delta Coun. Sylvia Bishop announced this week that she is throwing her hat in the ring for the nomination to run as the NDP candidate for North Delta.

"I have always thought about wanting to serve as an MLA," the first-term councillor said Wednesday morning.

Current North Delta MLA Guy Gentner announced his retirement last week.

Bishop said she had heard that he was considering his next move and started making, and getting, phone calls about possibly running for the nomination.

She said she thought about it through the weekend before making the final decision earlier this week.

Bishop is a long-time member of the provincial NDP and ran provincially in the 1980s.
