Former Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kelly Gruber will be in Tsawwassen Saturday for an autograph signing in support of survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Gruber will take photos, chat with fans and sign autographs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Pastime Sports & Games at Tsawwassen Mills.

The suggested donation is a minimum of $20 per autograph with all proceeds donated to Survivors Supporting Survivors.

Survivors Supporting Survivors spokesperson Andy Bhatti said the event will also raise awareness and provide information on childhood sexual abuse and trauma. The funds raised will go directly to pay for therapy for survivors who can’t afford it.

“I’m good friends with Kelly and worked with him before on other charity events,” said Bhatti. “I messaged him and asked him if he could come out to a golf event on Thursday and then came up with the idea of a signing event in Delta. It’s all come together very well. It should be a fun event on Saturday.”

Survivors Support Survivors is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and resources for survivors of childhood victimization. Through its charity events and public awareness campaigns, the goal is to raise funds for victims of abuse to attend therapy and for agencies across Canada that provide services for men and women who have been victims of child abuse and/or sexual violence.

Survivors Supporting Survivors has also teamed up with Geri Bemister a therapist to help addicts that are also survivors.

Bemister, who is a behavioral scientist, business owner and former director of operations at the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre, will also be on hand at Saturday’s event to offer support and information.
