A few design changes have been unveiled for the proposed $70 million hotel/casino complex for Delta.
Representatives from Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd. and the B.C. Lottery Corporation were on hand for another open house at the Delta Town and Country Inn Thursday evening to explain the latest.
A Gateway spokesperson noted the layout and general footprint remain the same as the initial proposal but the look is “evolving” and that a final design was recently submitted to Delta as part of its application to the city.
The modifications include a new water feature outside as well as a new cover over an enhanced lobby entrance to create “a sense of arrival.”
A steady stream of over 30 people in total trickled in to Thursday’s open house to see the more detailed renderings. Company representatives said the feedback on the project at the open houses has been positive including the chosen location.
Gateway wants to build the facility at the Delta Town and Country Inn site. It includes a new five-storey, 116-room hotel, meeting space, eateries and a casino with up to 600 slots and 24 gaming tables.
The number of slots proposed is smaller than casinos like the River Rock Casino Resort and Starlight Casino, but more than some of the smaller gambling venues around the region, such as Chances or Elements.
More details about the gaming, including whether the casino will have a sports book, still have to be worked out, according to Gateway. The company explains that its rezoning and development application at this point is all about form and character of the premises.
Delta is also hosting several open houses in early February before the application goes to council.
All sessions will run from 4 to 8 p.m. on the following dates:
