A North Delta man could be facing several charges following an incident that forced the closure of lanes on the Stanley Park causeway early Wednesday morning.

According to West Vancouver police, at approximately midnight, an officer conducting enforcement saw a vehicle heading southbound off the Lions Gate Bridge at high speed.

WVPD communications spokesperson Const. Jeff Palmer said no pursuit was initiated, but moments later the vehicle collided with two other southbound vehicles before crashing into the guard rail and pedestrian/cycling path.

“The driver fled, but was found and apprehended by Vancouver police officers a short distance away,” said Palmer. “Two passengers were found in the vehicle with minor injuries. Fortunately there were no injuries reported among occupants of the two other vehicles.”

Palmer said the 20-year-old North Delta man was served with a 90-day administrative driving prohibition, a 24-hour driving prohibition and was released on a promise to appear in North Vancouver provincial court on July 11.

Investigators are recommending charges of impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
