More than 2,500 Telus customers in Delta were without landline phone service early Monday morning.

Telus spokesperson Liz Sauve said around 6:30 a.m. a power surge caused a disruption to landline phone service for residents in the Tilbury Island area.

“We immediately began working to fix the issue, and fully restored service at 8:45 a.m.,” said Sauve. “The good news is wireless service (cell phones) was not impacted.”

Sauve said that some reports that the service disruption was specific to 911 was not true.

“This wasn’t a specific issue with 911. 911 was still working and could be reached by a cell phone or by a working landline phone outside of the area that was impacted,” she added. “Essentially, if your home phone was impacted, it means that you could not place a phone call which does include dialing 911.”
