Tsawwassen Commons will have about a 100 retailers at the new mall.

Staples is coming to the new Tsawwassen Commons Mall.

Last week the major office supply retailer confirmed it signed a lease for a 15,385-square-foot store that will open spring 2017. Staples, which saw its proposed $6.3 billion merger with Office Depot Inc. blocked by regulators this year, plans to acquire new customers by increasing its offering of products as well as services beyond office supplies.

Some of the other big name retailers already confirmed coming to the 550,000 square foot Tsawwassen Commons includes Canadian Tire, PetSmart, Marks Work Warehouse, Dollarama and HomeSense. A few of the other tenants are Metro Liquor, Nando's Chicken, Wings Tap and Grill, AW, Wendy's and Starbucks, with the latter three all offering drive-thru locations.

Also opening early next year at the mall, and perhaps the most talked about locally, is a roughly 150,000-square-foot Walmart “super centre” that will carry everything from shoes to appliances, while also stocking a selection of perishable foods and a large pantry area for dry goods.

Having about 100 stores, the Property Development Group project will be opening in phases with almost the entire outdoor mall complex expected to be open for business by summer 2017.

The mall will be located next door to the new Tsawwassen Mills mall, which has its grand opening Oct. 5 at the Tsawwassen First Nation.
