The arena at the Ladner Leisure Centre has been closed since the stucco façade fell to the ground in February. Some dry floor users have been moved to the South Delta Recreation Centre, which has squeezed out the motorcycle show that was scheduled for Sunday.

The annual motorcycle show held at the South Delta Recreation Centre has been cancelled this year.

The Classic & Vintage Motorcycle Swap Meet and Show 'n Shine was to take place on Sunday.

Organizer Todd Copan said on the advice of his lawyer he had no comment as to why the show was cancelled. The event's website noted the cancellation was "due to circumstances beyond our control."

Copan said the show has enjoyed 28 years of hospitality in Tsawwassen and

that he wished to thank the residents and businesses that welcomed it every year.

Ken Kuntz, Delta's director of parks, recreation and culture, explained that as a result of the limited use of the Ladner Leisure Centre while repairs are underway, many dry floor events for lacrosse and ball hockey had to be rescheduled to other Delta arenas.

The stucco façade on the east side of the Ladner building fell away from the wall after the anchoring system failed in February.

Game schedules and tournaments had already been fixed within various leagues and holding the motorcycle show would have meant cancellations of dry floor events, Kuntz said.

"The wall failure at Ladner is very unusual circumstance and everyone had to work together to make schedules work as best they could," he said.

Kuntz said he was extremely impressed by

the cooperation among dry floor users to reschedule their bookings and that the motorcycle show would have taken two full weekend days away from the dry floor season.

Tsawwassen's Peter Vassilopoulos, who has attended many of the shows held in the community, said it is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, motorcycle show in the Pacific Northwest. He added business conducted in Tsawwassen during the show must be substantial.

"It will be sorely missed, especially by the restaurants and the hotel," Vassilopoulos said.
