Enjoy warm rhythmic music and fresh organic food at the Earthwise Garden with An Evening of Music in the Garden featuring musical duo Watasun and chefs from Chill Winston on Aug. 21 at 6 p.m.
Watasun, a Vancouverbased beachy-folk duo, are known for upbeat tunes inspired by West African and Caribbean sounds, and promise an evening of catchy, mood-boosting music.
Vocalist Adam is known for his inventive style, while Reid produces impressive sounds using only an amplified wooden box and steel drum.
Watasun's inclusive approach to music encourages the crowd to participate with call and response singing, and welcomes audience members to join the band on stage for hand drumming.
Mike Hill, Mariposa Folk Festival's Artistic Director, speaks highly of this talented group.
"Their music is outstanding - tuneful, energetic, rhythmic... and presented with enthusiasm and a great sense of showmanship. Very professional," he said.
"I would highly recommend these two for any occasion and any setting."
Food will be prepared in the Earthwise earth oven, by chef Derek Bothwell of Chill Winston in Gastown.
Chill Winston partners with Earthwise Society on a unique field to table program for the chefs and culinary staff.
Every week a team from Chill Winston visits the Earthwise Farm to learn about growing food and to help with the harvest of fresh organic vegetables and fruits, to be incorporated in their menu.
Proceeds from Music in the Garden will go to support Earthwise Society's education programs in organic agriculture and ecological gardening, which include curriculumlinked eco-tours, high school agriculture classes, Organic Master Gardener programs, composting workshops, Feed the Bees, and gardening month by month.
Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased from the Earthwise Society office at 6400-3rd Ave., Delta.
Advanced ticket purchases are encouraged to avoid disappointment. Food and beverages are sold separately.
