Listeners of South Asian radio station KRPI 1550 AM have shown their support for the Reach Child and Youth Development Society.

Reach staff members and the organization's municipal liaison, Coun. Sylvia Bishop, were interviewed by morning show host Dr. Jasbir Romana last month to raise awareness of Reach services to children with developmental disabilities and their families.

Information was shared to assist Punjabi-speaking families learn more about programs and services available to support the development of children with special needs as well as Reach's capital campaign.

"We fundraise to address unmet needs in our communities," said Reach executive director Renie D'Aquila.

KRPI listeners were introduced to the Reach Foundation's Building for Children Together capital campaign to build a new child development centre in Ladner and contributed $4,300 to the cause.

Having reached the $4-million mark of the $5-million goal, Reach will break ground this spring.

The new building will allow Reach to provide more programs for children with special needs and increase the number of children served.

Reach has been providing services since 1959. Over 1,000 children and their families benefit on an annual basis.
